Lincs Digital are providing Digital outreach within East Lindsey by delivering Digital Support sessions to over 50s including an awareness of online safety, finances, communication and shopping. Sessions are designed around the needs of those attending and often differ between venues. This project is as a result of a successful year delivering our “Becoming Digital “sessions and requests to deliver at new venues across East Lindsey. We will also deliver Digital Champion Training to volunteers to sustain the service beyond the actual project delivery.
Prior to the Lincs Digital project last year they had numerous enquiries from people attending drop-in sessions at Louth Trinity Centre asking they could deliver any sessions at other venues around the district. Lincs Digital became aware that there were no facilities offering IT support sessions for over 50s in Horncastle, Woodhall Spa, Wragby and Alford. And there were limited services in Skegness, Mablethorpe and Louth but unfortunately they were aimed at working age and leave older people excluded.
The success of their sessions last year proved the need for a learner centred approach with delivery at a pace and content arranged for the group. Lincs Digital did not deliver “courses”, but aimed at a group feeling with everyone interacting and being able to ask questions or try out devices for themselves.
They found that some parts of the sessions were delivered at all venues but many others were specific to a particular group which proved “one size does not fit all” and off the shelf courses are not the most appropriate approach for older learners. The content covered was often the same but the method of delivery was either workshop, presentation or some 1:1 support. Static learning centres are no longer viable and we find that it is much better to use outreach.
We also support other organisations working on the TED project and attend their events in a voluntary role:

- Age UK Lindsey friendship group at Skegness
Current activities are held weekly at each venue for a block of 6 to 8 weeks.
