Friendship Groups

Friendship groups are a self-sustaining community initiative developed through Talk, Eat, Drink (TED) as part of the National Lottery Community funded Ageing Better programme. The aim of the groups are to welcome and encourage anyone over the age of 50 to get involved with their local community, meet new people, and take part in social activities. Friendship groups are volunteer led with support provided by the TED Friendship Officer. Volunteers are encouraged to plan activities, outings and engage other members of the group to ensure the groups success and longevity.

Here is the Friendship Group toolkit.

One of the Volunteer’s from The Over 50s Youth Club shared “today would not have happened without the hard work of our volunteers who make this so special that makes it worth all the hard work that goes into it.” She went on to describe the celebrations as “special, magic and a lovely atmosphere, the way the room has been arranged has really helped. Everyone is talking, you know you’ve done well when everyone is talking to each other, and there’s a buzz”.

Horncastle – Over 50s Youth Club

The group meets every Wednesday from 1.30pm till 3pm at the

Community Hall. Refreshments are available to attendees with the purchase of a £2 raffle ticket. All raffle prizes are donations to the group and are greatly appreciated by the volunteers who run the Friendship Group. There is a programme of activities and speakers arranged and run by the volunteers.

Anyone is welcome to attend the Over 50s Youth Club having its doors open to existing and new members.

The Over 50s Club remains closed until 2 March 2022

We are aware that this step is a disappointment to many

but the leadership’s concern is that, although Government guidance has lifted many restrictions, the high levels of infection in our area at this time continues to be relevant for many of our vulnerable members.
